This renovation project is focused on establishing an Allied Health Professional Museum to highlight the history of these professional associations. The building was the site of Detroit's 1st black hospital. The Dunbar Hospital, was named after famed poet P. Lawrence Dunbar. It is currently owned by the Detroit Medical Society.

The project intends to acquire sufficient funds to upgrade the physical plant and to place various displays of an historical nature showcasing the achievements of African Americans in health care. This is a joint effort of The Detroit Medical Society and The Leeway Foundation.
